Dear Members, While it was a bit of a surreal Memorial Day Weekend without the traditional celebrations to ring in another LYC season, Club Leadership has continued to develop and implement plans to safely phase-in amenities for the Membership. While the Clubhouse remains closed in accordance with the Governor's Executive Order, we are pleased to share the following developments: Food & Beverage As one of the few Clubs that offers its Members food and beverage service, LYC will be permitted to re-open in accordance with guidelines governing restaurants, as opposed to the more delayed opening of "social clubs." We are hearing that the Governor may permit outdoor dining (which would include our covered deck and uncovered patio) as early as the middle of June. To that end, our Restaurant Advisory Committee has worked to develop an adaptable strategic plan to offer food and beverage service as the State relaxes dining restrictions. Of course, we will need to modify the traditional dining experience in order to comply with State regulations, including operating at reduced capacity and maintaining social distancing. In addition, the Clubhouse must remain closed, so access to the R to R Room will be restricted. Whether it's curbside takeout or dining by reservation, we appreciate your understanding and compliance with applicable regulations as we navigate these uncharted waters together. In order to gauge Member demand for our various dining offerings and to allow us to plan accordingly, we ask that you complete our Dining Survey by June 1st, which will be posted on the Members' Only website shortly. Guest Policy In light of anticipated restrictions on the Club's operating capacity during the early part of the season and to ensure that the Club is first and foremost reserved for use by its Members, the Board has instituted the following Limited Guest Policy until further notice: 1. "A" Members are not permitted to host guests at the Club. 2. "B" Members will be permitted to host one fixed registered guest with whom they are quarantining at the Club. Sunday Series The BBYRA has cancelled its racing until August 8th; however, no final decisions have been made with respect to our Sunday Series. At this time, our current expectation is to offer a traditional racing schedule for our single-handed fleets and a more abbreviated schedule for multi-handed fleets, which do not lend themselves to social distancing requirements. VC Brad Wright plans to post a preliminary Notice of Race by June 1st, which will be subject to amendment given the fluidity of the situation, and to reach out to each fleet individually to solicit feedback on the proposed racing framework. Junior Sailing The Governor's office has indicated that junior sailing will be treated comparably to "summer camps," which will be permitted to re-open in "Phase 2." As such, the current expectation (subject to change) is to commence our Junior Sailing Program on July 6th with instruction offered Monday through Friday. LJ Dolan, our Head of Junior Sailing, has worked tirelessly to adapt our traditional program and incorporate numerous safeguards and best practices to promote the health and safety of our LYC community, including single-handed only instruction, staggered start times of small groups and other precautions. Please look out for a separate email from LJ outlining in more detail the various actions we're taking in order to offer a successful (and safe) program this Summer. Launch of The Hut's Online Store As we announced last week, The Hut is now accepting orders through its Online Store and offering contactless curbside pickup. To ensure that shopping is restricted to Members, you are required to enter a case-sensitive password (available on the Members' Only website) to proceed to checkout. Please keep an eye out for New Arrivals that will be available for purchase beginning this weekend! In addition, to celebrate our new eCommerce platform, we are continuing to offer a Free Gift with all orders! Marina & Boat Storage Operations As previously announced, Members are permitted to launch and operate their watercraft from the Club. Our middle lift is fully operational, and the Mobi-Mats have been installed in order to launch boats from the beach. While we want you to enjoy your boating, we remind Members to do so responsibly by maintaining a safe social distance at all times while on Club property and boating only with those in their immediate household with whom they are quarantining. Spring Clean-Up: This Saturday, May 30th at 9am As a reminder, our Spring Clean-Up is this Saturday, May 30th at 9am (Rain Date: May 31st). We ask that each volunteer wear a face mask and gloves and commit to social distancing while completing the work, which will primarily be outside on the deck and grounds. Donuts, coffee and water will be provided. If you have any questions, feel free to email Ed Thayres (FL450@aol.com), Dave Finter (daf820bbw@verizon.net) or myself (johnb3325@hotmail.com). Please know that we will continue to use a thoughtful and careful approach to re-opening as we balance our Members' desire to enjoy the Club with the health and safety of our LYC community. As always, we will continue to share any developments as they become available. On behalf of your Board of Governors,
Commodore John Broderick
